History

Dilshad Garden was made a parish of the Delhi Archdiocese in 1992 and Fr. Thomas Chacko OFM was appointed the vicar. Since majority of the members are Syro-Malabar Catholics, SM Mass was offered from the beginning of the parish on Saturdays. From 1996 onwards, Syro-Malabar mass was celebrated on Sundays too except on second Sunday. Saturday mass was celebrated by Fr. Sebastian Vadakumpadan and Sunday mass by Fr. John Chozhithara in the beginning. Following them, Fr. Benny Parecattil, Fr. Joshy Vezhaparambil, Fr. Francis Kavalippadan and Fr. Johny from the diocese of Kottayam served the community.

The community began actively involved in all the common activities of the Delhi Syro-Malabar Mission under the leadership of Fr. Francis Kavalippadan. In 2001 Fr. Jetto Thottungal was appointed in charge of the Syro-Malabar community and he began staying in the parish. He organised the community and various activities were initiated including the 1950 Jubilee celebration of the arrival of St. Thomas in India. Due to certain unfortunate incidents in the parish, the services of Fr. Jetto was withdrawn from Dilshad Garden by the Syro-Malabar Chaplain. The Mass Centre was raised to a Personal Parish on June 15, 2005 by His Grace Archbishop Vincent Concessao and Fr. Augustine Edakkalathur OFM Cap. was appointed Parish Priest. On 27 July 2008 Fr. Biju Choorapadath, OFM Cap took charge of the parish.
