The Syro-Malabar community at
Kingsway Camp had its own
first holy mass on August 15,
1991 under the initiative of
Fr. Sebastian Vadakumpadan,
the Chaplain of the Syro-Malabar
community in Delhi. Initially
there were two masses a month
but soon the community was
blessed with holy mass on all
Sundays, days of obligation
and on special occasions.
After Fr. Sebastian
Vadakkumpadan, Fr. Dominic
MCBS took charge of the
community staying in MCBS
House at Lawrence Road, Ashok
Vihar. He was followed by Fr.
Paul Poovathinkal CMI, Fr.
Davis Varayil CMI and Fr.
George Thekkumcherry from the
diocese of Bijnor, who were
also pursuing their studies.
All of them stayed in the
Rosary Church and looked after
the pastoral care with full
spirit. As a result, at
present there is a strong Syro-Malabar
community united and active.
Rosary parish and Rosary
Senior Secondary School are in
the same compound and almost
all the children of the
community are studying there.
On 1st October 2006, the syro
Malabar community in Kingsway
camp were divided into
two mass centers as
Bl.Mariam Thresia mass centre
at Burari and Blessed
Sacrament mass centre at Radio
colony by the declaration of
the Archbishop. And both of
the mass centers were erected
as individual personal
parishes on 15th October 2007.
Fr. Varghese Moonjely had
been looking after the
pastoral needs of the
community staying at MCBS
House in Lawerence Road till 1
August 2007. The
community owns a plot of land
in Santhnagar, Burari, and is
struggling to build a church
of its own. Fund raising
process has been initiated. On
1 August 2007, Blessed
Sacrament Syro Malabar
Personal Parish, Radio Colony
was erected within the
territory of Kingsway parish
and Fr. Jimmy Pulickakunnel
MCBS was appointed as its
first parish priest.
