It was with the appointment of
Fr. Sebastian Vadakumpadan as
the Chaplain of Syro-Malabar
Catholics in 1991, that Syro-Malabar
mass began to be celebrated in
Sacred Heart Cathedral
regularly. From the year 1991
until he returned to Kerala in
2004, Fr. Sebastian was in
charge of the mass centre.
Mass was celebrated on II and
IV Sundays of every month and
recently V Sunday also was
added to the schedule. Since 2
December 2004, Fr. Jose
Edassery, the coordinator of
the Mission who took charge
from Fr. Sebastian
Vadakumpadan looked after the
Paharganj mass centre. On 24th
September 2006, Fr. Antony
Kilukkan took charge of the
centre. On 17 February 2008,
Fr. Varghese Palatty was
appointed as the
priest-in-charge of the
community. Fr Renson
thekkinezhath took charge as
the Priest in charge from 1st
April 2011The community gathers for
service also for special
occasions like Christmas and
Holy Week. The feast of St.
Thomas the Apostle is
celebrated solemnly every year
from the year 2000 onwards.
Rev. Sisters from Patel
Nagar FCC convent and Rajinder
Nagar SABS convents are
helping the community in the
service. The centre has a
choir group that makes the
liturgy more attractive.
