History

It was with the appointment of Fr. Sebastian Vadakumpadan as the Chaplain of Syro-Malabar Catholics in 1991, that Syro-Malabar mass began to be celebrated in Sacred Heart Cathedral regularly. From the year 1991 until he returned to Kerala in 2004, Fr. Sebastian was in charge of the mass centre. Mass was celebrated on II and IV Sundays of every month and recently V Sunday also was added to the schedule. Since 2 December 2004, Fr. Jose Edassery, the coordinator of the Mission who took charge from Fr. Sebastian Vadakumpadan looked after the Paharganj mass centre. On 24th September 2006, Fr. Antony Kilukkan took charge of the centre. On 17 February 2008, Fr. Varghese Palatty was appointed as the priest-in-charge of the community. Fr Renson thekkinezhath took charge as the Priest in charge from 1st April 2011

The community gathers for service also for special occasions like Christmas and Holy Week. The feast of St. Thomas the Apostle is celebrated solemnly every year from the year 2000 onwards.

Rev. Sisters from Patel Nagar FCC convent and Rajinder Nagar SABS convents are helping the community in the service. The centre has a choir group that makes the liturgy more attractive.
