In 1993 Fr. Johny from St.
Paul’s began celebrating Syro
Malabar mass in Alaknanda.
Later on Fr. Sebastian
Vadakumpadan started to say
mass last Sunday of every
month at 8 pm. Then the
service got more regular by
1995 when there was mass on
all Sundays except 4th Sunday.
Fr. Paul Madassery, Fr. Justin
Puthussery and Fr. Martin
Mampilly used to celebrate
mass here. Fr. Baiju
Vadakumchery was the first
priest in charge of the
centre. Then Fr. Francis
Kavalippadan took charge along
with mass centre at Defence
Colony. As he was transferred
Fr. Jose Cholikkara took his
place. Fr. Jose went to
Germany and in his place Fr.
Reji Tom from Don Bosco was
appointed. After a year of
service Fr. Reji was
transferred to Punjab.
At this juncture, the Syro-Malabar
community insisted that they
be given a priest from the
pastoral clergy of the Syro-Malabar
Church and not from any
religious congregation. Though
the archbishop of Delhi was
not in favour of that, finally
he appointed Fr. Tom
Mullenchira as the priest in
charge on August 1, 2004. The
Mass Centre was raised to a
Personal Parish on June 15,
2005 by His Grace Archbishop
Vincent Concessao and Fr. Tom
Mullenchira was appointed
Parish Priest. On 1 August
2007, Fr. Shajan Puthenpura
took charge of the parish from
Fr. Tom Mullenchira. A new
flat of coast sixty six lacs
purchased in January 2009 and
it was converted as a chapel
and residence of the parish
priest. And it was blessed by
His Grace Rt.Rev.Vincent M.
Concessavo on 21st January
2009.On 27th 2009 Fr.Joshy
Kachappilly took charge as the
new parish priest.
